How I work
Starting a system is the easy half. The hard half is the second year, when the decisions you made in week one are load-bearing and someone else is depending on them. So I build for that year: read before writing, leave a test behind for anything non-obvious, and resist the rewrite until the current thing is genuinely understood.
I have spent enough time next to UI/UX teams to take design review seriously, and enough time on call to care about what happens when the network is bad and the data is already wrong.
